Come and join us for your stay of ultimate relaxation. Away from the noise and heat of the city, you can relax with us and enjoy coffee grown on site, varied worldwide vegetarian cuisine, exclusive hikes, farm tours and cosy, en-suite rooms.
Pete from England started the project in 2015 with a vision of a guesthouse that has a low environmental impact and a strong and positive connection to the local community. A space for guests to slow down, escape from the modern and digital world and reconnect with nature, themselves and others. Pete is now back in England to be close to his family.
Meet your hosts:
Stijn from the Netherlands is Pete's business partner and your main point of contact, Stijn is also the owner of Hostal La Buena Onda in the city of Matagalpa.
Francisco & Maria (pictured left) are your friendly Nicaraguan hosts living onsite with their family. They manage daily life at the lodge, running the kitchen and tours.
How to get to us:
We are situated in a coffee farm 20 mins from Matagalpa. Our road is private and accessed only by prior appointment.
We provide a pick up service from Matagalpa city for $6 per person ($12 for guests arriving solo). When you make a reservation we will arrange pick up time and place. By appointment only. Please contact us prior if you have your own 4x4.

Food is a big feature here at the lodge, and we’re proud to serve varied, worldwide vegetarian cuisine that would not usually be found elsewhere in Nicaragua.
All food is freshly prepared and locally sourced (if it’s not from the garden!) and we’re proud to make all of our own breads, yoghurt, granola, kombucha and sauces. Lunch and dinner are served family style to allow guests to get to know each other and the hosts and al fresco dining with a view of the cloud forest on one of our two balconies is a regular occurrence.
We serve breakfast (choose from 4 varied options and a drink), lunch and dinner as well as snacks, drinks and homemade cakes. If you would prefer to ‘opt out’ of a meal please just let us know.
Coffee & Permaculture Farm
Eco-Lodge & Coffee Farm
We are proud of our eco credentials, with each bedroom featuring a hot solar shower and we are working towards solar power being used across the lodge. We do our utmost to reduce our consumption, recycle all materials where possible and compost everything we can to create natural fertiliser for our vegetable garden.
Guests can taste coffee from our small farm which is processed locally each year. We are making every effort to harvest and process our coffee as sustainably as possible, drying naturally without washing with water which also gives a more complex speciality coffee for our guests. You can learn lots more about our coffee processes and things we are experimenting with on one of our private tours and buy some to take home too.
We are also in the process of developing our permaculture farm and polytunnel to grow as much as our own organic food produce as possible. We are busy creating wild gardens, social areas, flower gardens and much more. If you would like to learn more about our plans, just ask!
Tours & Activities
We run personalised hikes and tours which are very informative and suitable for a large variety of interests and abilities.
We have a unique and popular day hike to our famous neighbours Selva Negra, hikes with stunning mountain top panoramic views and potential to hike deep into the primary cloud forest away from the coffee farms.
Guests have the opportunity on all hikes to learn about coffee farming, tropical ecology, local history and birds. We offer a variety of short hikes and longer hikes for those that would like a more challenging adventure. All of these tours are across private land and can be tailored to your interests.
Otherwise, you are welcome to wander within our farm and local trails - through lush forest and with dramatic mountain views. We can help you explore with maps of the trails and binoculars to spot the varied birds on the farm from toucans to falcons. We also have a variety of hammocks in scenic spots, a library, board games and yoga mats. We want you to experience the Finca as your home away from home and if there’s anything we can help you with please get in touch.
